GT LEADers in Action!
May 2016 (second edition)
It's very difficult to believe my first year at Cannon has come to a close. It has been an absolute joy, and I thank you for supporting me and the GT LEAD pullout program every step of the way. Your young scholar has been a part of a learning environment that has been engaging, challenging, and I hope, rewarding. And now, thanks to your support of the district Bond, Cannon will become a state-of-the-art STEM school that will be an even brighter star in the community. Thank you for your vote!
I wish your family a fantastic summer, and I look forward to many exciting experiences in the gifted and talented world next year.
Again, thank you for everything. What a blessing it is to be at Cannon!

Here's how we finished out the year in our classroom:
Kindergarten used abstract images to extend their thinking in a variety of ways. They experienced "fluency" as the brilliant ideas poured and poured from their brains.
1st grade was sad to see our class aquarium disappear, but they did enjoy their last day of logic problems and complex challenges.

2nd grade enjoyed a fun story called Dog Breath by Dav Pilkey, where we got to recognize that sometimes our giftedness is not always understood by others, but that we all have great value and an important place in the world. Our monochromatic sculptures reflected this same individuality, for sure.
3rd grade completed their 3D designs and cleverly combined awesome alliteration and decorative details to handsomely highlight their intelligent ideas. Whew!
4th grade spent their last day in class reflecting on highlights of the year and pondering how we could use some of the skills we learned this year in LEAD later in life. Their insights were remarkable.
5th grade ended their elementary school gifted and talented program with a game called Escape to Middle School, where they were challenged to solve various puzzles, critical thinking experiences and simulations. The goal was to be the team that earned the most points, enabling them to earn digits in a secret code. Once all six digits were collected, groups had to formulate the correct order of the digits to "escape" the elementary room and enter the middle school realm. We had a challenging blast together. I can't wait to see what middle school brings these remarkable, young people. The future looks very very promising.
