GT LEADers in Action!
 January

HAPPIEST NEW YEAR, FAMILIES!
2017 will be an exciting time in GT LEAD, as we have many engaging and thought-provoking experiences planned for your talented scholar!
Thank you for your patience and support over the last month of school with my family matters.  My daughter is finally well enough to return to school (she started yesterday!), and hopefully her health will continue to improve.  I truly appreciate all the well-wishes and the lovely Christmas blessings my desk was showered with on the last day of school!  It was overwhelming, and I thank you sincerely.

SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER FOR 5th Grade GT LEAD:
Roberto Zuniga, Lead Planner for Cannon's STEM building

Roberto Zuniga spoke to my fifth grade students about his career in architecture and urban planning/development.  He shared with the scholars his passion to improve communities, particularly in the design of our upcoming, extraordinary new school.  He told the students that their success at Cannon Elementary helped make the next generation school possible. He said it was their legacy to the future.  Here is the note Mr. Zuniga sent me this morning.  I knew you would appreciate it as much as I did.
Mrs. Gable, I have been a public speaker in two different countries in two
different languages. I also was an adjunct faculty design studio
professor . I have never had a more engaged audience, and questions of
this quality. For the first time I understood how having a high IQ can
be a burden for those who have today's age of mediocracy and
misunderstood equity. I could see that for those kids, its a safe
heaven for their minds. I actually learned, from Melanie and the
experience itself, the importance of preparing one's questions for
speakers in lectures and conferences one attends. I intend to make it
a personal discipline, one that I wish I had instilled in me long ago.
I also had a very fortunate inspiration, I started my presentation
taking  the questions they had prepared for me, that allowed me to
calibrate my tone, tenor and narrative. I can honestly tell you that
these kid got the first college grade presentation of the nature of
urban planning and urban development.  As a speaker, I was impressed by
this audience. Like I said, it was a win-win. RZ
